Our mission is to create a tool that integrates the mind-body connection, empowering individuals to find harmony in all areas of life—work, family, social dynamics, hobbies, and personal development—making wellness an enjoyable and lifelong journey.
Founder's Story
Calmstone was developed by Dr. Franklin Ly in his Ph.D. career at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Coming into graduate school, Dr. Ly's ambition was to tackle problems with high potential impact on society. Under the guidance of Dr. Henry Yang, Chancellor of UCSB, he was introduced to Dr. Paul Hansma, who is renowned for his work in developing new technologies. Dr. Hansma's personal journey overcoming chronic pain sparked an interest in crafting innovative solutions for those battling chronic pain. Drawing from familiarity with concepts like meditation and mind-body connection, Dr. Franklin Ly embraced the opportunity to research mind-body technological solutions for chronic pain.
Over the course of his studies, he witnessed the transformative effects of combining mind-body technology with therapies, particularly in alleviating anxiety and pain. He observed a notable correlation between the ability to regulate hand temperature and improved well-being. Beyond chronic pain, this same technology demonstrated efficacy in addressing various issues such as anxiety, sleep disorders, migraines, poor circulation, and concentration difficulties.
As Dr. Ly neared the completion of his Ph.D., he was compelled to share these benefits to create a great impact in society. Thus, he envisioned a product that would be accessible to all, simple yet effective, enabling anyone to enhance their life and well-being.
This was how Calmstone came to be.
Dr. Franklin Ly's entrepreneurial journey has been enriched by the unwavering support of his life partner. Amidst the company's bloom last Spring, the couple welcomed a baby boy in July 2023.
The growth of Calmstone to its current stage has been both challenging and incredible— made possible by a team of hardworking, talented individuals and amazing supporters.
